      Fourth of July is upon us...in honor of AMERICAN STYLE, I will post about American style icons this week... there are so many, but today I will focus on : BABE PALEY .

ICON - Catherine Deneuve

 Muse of the Month

      In 1969, at the age of five, I went to the movies. My mom took my sister, my cousin, and me, to see The April Fools (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_April_Fools).

      The April Fools featured Jack Lemmon, Peter Lawford, and the exquisite Catherine Deneuve. Deneuve is a French actress whose beauty and cool demeanor are legendary in France. In the USA, she is considered a beautiful actress, and style icon. Her status as icon in the USA is largely attributed to her long standing association with the late designer Yves St. Laurent, and her stint as a spokes-model for CHANEL perfume in the 1970's. St. Laurent outfitted her for a number of her lead film roles, most notably in Bunuel's Bell de Jour....yet i digress...back to The April Fools.....


      In 1969 i was five years old, certainly not old enough to think abstractly about personal style, image, and Deneuve. My mom, however, was 42 years old, and of course thought about my style, my look, and decided her five year old should look just like Deneuve. She proceeded to fix my hair a la Denueve each day. It is now 2013. I will be fifty years old next month. My fixation with Denuve continued. i think i have one of the most comprehensive Pinterest boards on her. I regret that I am not fluent in French. I love French Cinema. And I love the designs of the late consummate and masterful designer Yves St. Laurent. Here are some of my favorite Deneuve images, starting with those from The April Fools.
